The 2010 Media Award for communities less than 75,000 award was presented the Crime Stopper International Training Conference in Nova Scotia Canada, was for the 30 second-commercial produced by Gester Garcia and Oliver Patris and displayed to the public by MCV.
The black and white piece with no talking depicts a young man witnessing an armed robbery. The message is clear: report crime anonymously, help law enforcement keep our island safe and get a reward.
Over a dozen video commercials were submitted to the local Crime Stoppers program and the board of directors chose to send this particular video to compete against the other crime stoppers programs around the world.
Jim Arenovski, Western Pacific director for Crime Stoppers International, presented the award to the local Crime Stoppers program in at the group’s monthly board meeting. “This is the first international award for the NMI program and we at Crime Stoppers International look forward to more submissions from the western pacific programs,” said Arenovski.
He also mentioned that September is Crime Stoppers Month and that the local program is working on a bumper sticker promotion that could win those with NMI Crime Stoppers bumper stickers to win great prizes. “We will also be launching some new PSA’s for radio stations on the island. In a time where our islands residents are struggling with tighter budgets, the realization that there will be an increase in property and domestic violence in apparent, Crime Stoppers must continue to promote our tips line at 234-7272 and

Manglona Jr. now a naval officer
ANOTHER son of the CNMI, Paul Atalig Manglona Jr. has been commissioned as a naval officer.
Ensign Manglona graduated Sept. 10, 2010 from the Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. He joined the Navy Civil Engineer Corps shortly after earning his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering last May 17, 2010 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
The new CEC ensign will next be attending the Civil Engineer Corps Officer School in Port Hueneme, California where he will receive specialized training needed for Navy projects, including management, administration, contract management, public works, and specialized military roles such as construction battalions.
Manglona is the son of Paul and Lydia Manglona of Rota. He gratuated from Father Duenas Memorial High School on Guam in June 2006.
