Held every ten years in ten different Pacific jurisdictions, the APNLC Conference 2009 has over a hundred registrants from the region, including Japan, for the first time.
The participants are paying for their own airfare, accommodations, meals and transportation, infusing much needed cash into the local economy.
The CNMI Nursing Association has also tapped into local businesses, using their products and services to organize this important community health forum.
Governor Benigno R. Fitial and Lt. Governor Eloy S. Inos proclaimed June 14-20, 2009, as the 23rd Nurses’ Week with the theme “Nurses Empowering Lives.”
“I urge the CNMI people to recognize the innumerable contributions and dedicated services provided by these professional members of our community. I strongly encourage our people of the CNMI to seriously consider a career in this noble profession,” said Fitial.
“We decided to have the Commonwealth Nurses’ Week the same time as the APNLC 2009 Conference to make it a celebration of our hardworking and dedicated nurses. We extend our sincere appreciation to all the CNMI nurses for the invaluable service they render to our community,” said CNMI Nursing Association president Lee Q. Castro.
The Nurses’ Week Eucharistic Mass will be held this Sunday, June 14 at the Santa Remedios Church in Tanapag at 8:00am.
All nurses are encouraged to wear their scrubs to the church.
“We are very excited about this year’s celebrations as well as the APNLC Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for our nurses to not only meet nurses from all over the region and share expertise and resources, but also to earn Continuing Education Units to improve their patient care outcomes,” said Castro.
Interested nurses may register up to Monday, June 15th at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Sand Castle.
The APNLC 2009 registration information, agenda and Continuing Education Units schedule is available at www.mpnurses.org.
