Saipan Southern High School students watch ‘Potter’ premiere

Saipan Southern High School Book Club has been promoting the event through literature connection in Book Club discussions, blog and Facebook page.

According to SSHS librarian Sudi Napalan, “Students enjoy seeing the book come alive through the motion picture.

There is also an increase of book circulation when there is a movie tie-in. It’s great when students want to read for pleasure. I enjoy organizing programs and activities in our school library that does that for our students.”

SSHS senior student Megan Ito said: “I expected the movie to be horrible because the one before this was bad and didn’t have much storyline or plot or much content but this installment was great. It proved to be more exciting than most of the Harry Potter films. It was like watching the 1st Harry Potter film for the first time.”

Ninety percent of the students surveyed for the activity said “they were encouraged to read the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book by their friends and teachers.” Ninety-three percent indicated that watching the movie would encourage them more to read the book.
