The one-week workshop from June 20 to 26 is being hosted by MHS Campus of the Catholic Vicariate of Palau and was organized by the Lay people of Palau and Father James Gould, SJ, and Father Rusk Saburo, Episcopal Vicar of the Catholic Vicariate of Palau.
During the first day of the conference, about a hundred youths have registered. “I’m rather pleased with the turnout,” said Father Gould.
“Those who registered during the opening day will be the one doing the program in the next few days.”
The Catholic Youth Organization in the country has been around for 20 years, said Father Gould in an interview. “But it’s the first Catholic Youth Conference that I’m involved in,” he said.
The basic purpose of the workshop is to teach Catholic youths in Palau how to strengthen their Catholic faith. The workshop is intended to be interactive, with games and skits to develop rapport since most of the participants do not know each other.
The National Evangelization Team from Australia was invited by Father Gould’s group to join them in providing support to Palau’s youth.
“These young presenters and speakers have been doing this all over the world for years,” said Father Gould.
The workshop will run until June 26. At the conclusion of the workshop, there will be a Mass at 6:00 p.m. and presentations of what the youths have learned.
