2 candidates vie for Ngaremlengui special election

Emiwo Mad and Noel Ngiramab filed their bid on Thursday and Friday, a week before the deadline set by the Election Commission on Monday.

The special election will be held on Oct. 11 to fill in the seat vacated by legislator Webster “Tero” Franz.

Representing Ngermetengel hamlet and served as vice speaker of the State Legislature, Franz resigned from his post on Aug. 31.

Franz was reportedly to have moved with his family to the United States where he has established residency.

Pursuant to State constitution, if a vacancy occurs in at least 180 days remaining for the rest of the term, a special election will he held to fill in the vacant seat.

Meanwhile, Election officer III Festus Ringang said that there is only one proper box to be placed during the election and this will be in Ngaremlengui State.

Aside from Ngaremlengui, Ngarchelong State will also conducting special election on Sept. 30.

This is to break the tie between Aderiano Noah and Dwight Ngirchemat who both got 23 votes in Ngriil hamlet during the 8th general state election held on Aug. 31

Whoever wins in the special election will occupy the one seat of eight seats in Legislature.
