2 new Covid-19 cases

THE Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. on Thursday reported that two additional travelers had been confirmed positive for Covid-19, bringing the CNMI’s total to 183 since March 28, 2020.

CHCC said the two new cases were identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through fifth-day testing on May 26 and testing on arrival on May 27.

The individuals have been moved to the designated isolation area for close monitoring, and the CHCC Communicable Disease Investigation/Inspection team has initiated contact tracing for contacts with the highest risk of exposure.

Of the 183 total confirmed cases in the CNMI, 147 were tested via travel screening: 90 were from the U.S., 37 from a U.S. territory and 20 from a foreign country.

CHCC said 36 were identified through community screening: 11 via community-based testing and 25 via contact tracing.

CHCC on Thursday reiterated that the Covid-19 vaccine works. “Based on what we know about vaccines for other diseases and early data from clinical trials, experts believe that getting a Covid-19 vaccine also helps keep you and your loved ones from getting seriously ill even if you do get Covid-19.”

CHCC is urging eligible members of the community to consider registering for vaccinations at www.vaccinatecnmi.com, or by calling the CHCC call center at 682-SHOT (7468), or registering in person at any vaccination site.
