$280k funding for environmental community projects now available

Amand Alexander, National Focal Person for GEFSGP and Olympia Morei (BNM) Member said that funding of $280,000 is now available for any non-government organization, community-based organization or community group in Palau, government agencies at National or State.

Alexander said any group can apply as long as it addresses any of the Environmental  Focal issues such as biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, climate change mitigation and adaptation, protection of international waters, prevention of land degradation or sustainable land management and elimination of persistent organic pollutant.Morei said GEFSGP reviews and approves the applicant’s application for grant.Applicants can apply for up to $50,000 grant.On February 6, 7 and 8, 2009, a workshop or meeting was held in Koror to discuss pending applications, planning for outreach activities and future of the program.GEF SGP National focal group is represented by members from Omult Program, Ministry of State, Ministry of Resource and Development, Belau National Museum, Palau Community Action Agency, Belau Modekngei School, Dini Faruya, Ebiil Society, Airai Watershed Working Group, Palau International Coral Reef Center and Palau Conservation Society.Alexander can be reached at 4883738 for more information about the program.
