THREE House members have been implementing several village projects in their precincts.
Precinct 2 Reps. John Paul Sablan and Tina Sablan were in Laly Four on Wednesday to witness Commonwealth Utilities Corp. field personnel install a power meter and cables for the basketball court in the area. Also installed were brand-new weatherheads and four LED lights so the youths can play basketball at nighttime.
Rep. JP Sablan said his and Rep. Tina Sablan’s offices shared the cost for the improvement of the Laly Four basketball court that totaled $12,000. The funding source was the casino license fee collection appropriated by the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation for various community projects.
Aside from providing electricity for the basketball court, the two Precinct 2 lawmakers also hired contractors to fix the basketball court bleachers and the nearby public restroom, and install showerheads.
“I’d like to thank the hardworking team at CUC for hooking up the power at the Laly 4 basketball court,” said Rep. Tina Sablan, the NMI Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate.
“This is part of ongoing improvements in the Laly 4 area, led by my Precinct 2 colleague, Rep. John Paul Sablan, with support from both our offices and SNILD funding appropriated for Precinct 2 projects,” she added.
She said their other projects include the completion of the architectural and engineering design and environmental assessment for the reconstruction of Sugar Dock, the repair of the public restroom at Laly 4, and flood mitigation/road repairs in Susupe and Chalan Kanoa.
She said the Department of Public Works is overseeing these projects. She and JP Sablan are working closely with DPW and checking in regularly for updates.
Speed bumps
In Precinct 4, Rep. Joel Camacho recently purchased speed bumps, which his community staff installed on the road at Paupau Beach.
“This is a needed safety feature as the playground that we had built is there and that this is the first time that Paupau Beach has ever had speed bumps installed,” Camacho said. “Many people from all over Saipan frequent Paupau Beach and I really want to keep the place safe for both tourists and our residents as well.”
Camacho said he may order more speed bumps for other areas in Precinct 4 that need them.
