The marine law enforcers are spending the training at the Southern part of Australia aboard Palau’s Patrol boat PSS H.I. Remeliik.
Jim Kloulechad, one of the marine law enforcers said “the ability to train on equipment that is fitted on our patrol boat is great. I can now understand how everything works.”
Kloulechad ,Oliver Mingirarou, Earl Benhart and Fred Ramarui are undertaking training at the Australian Maritime Collage located in Launceston, Tasmania.
Kloulechad is conducting training in Electronics and will be trained in the workings of all the bridge electronic equipment.
He will also be trained in the heavy electrical power equipment fitted and will be operating the ships main power supply machinery.
Mingirarou is training as a Marine Technician and after training he will be able to operate the main and generating engines.
He will also train on refrigeration, air conditioning and other systems.
Benhart meanwhile is undergoing the Executive Officers course.
The course will teach the officers in navigation, ship handling , surveillance and cargo operations.
Ramarui meanwhile has started training in the maintenance and upkeep of all the ships fitted survival equipment. The training maintains gears for emergencies.
Mathew Rivera and Thyron Rdiall meanwhile have recently arrived in Australia to participate in firefighting and ship damage repair courses which are held in the Australian Navy establishment HMAS Cerberus located near Melbourne.
According to a press statement from the marine law office, all the officers are looking forward to coming home to spend time with their families before conducting operational patrols in Palau’s fishing zones.
The police officers assigned to Marine Law are trained in Australia under the Australian Defence Cooperation project.
The Defence Force covered all costs associated with travel and courses.
The courses have external accreditation and provide the officers with valuable skills for the future.
