HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Nine students from Guam Community College have completed their time at the Construction Boot Camp IV.
On Oct. 30, GCC held a ceremony for the students celebrating the completion of their ten-week boot camp that taught them several skills, including training in ACT Work Keys, work ethics and OSHA-10. Credit courses, such as Introduction to Carpentry, Electrical I, Masonry I, Rough Framing and Exterior Finishing and Heart Savers First Aid CPR AED, were included, as explained by Royce Taimanglo, who completed the training as well as connected with his peers and mentors who guided him along the courses.
“There was always a bit of kindness and care. They want to be sure that I get what they are teaching me,” Taimanglo said.
“I really appreciated that. It has been a long time outside of school, and it was really empowering. It felt really good. I want everyone else to have this same opportunity with the boot camp. It was great to see that there are still a lot of good people out there that want to see you succeed.”
The students will now get the opportunity to work with Black Construction as general laborers
According to GCC President Mary A. Y. Okada, “Completers can be employed in our community (and) help build the economic development, not just for Guam, but for our region.”
