Acting DPW chief backs Infrastructure and Recovery Program’s grant application

ACTING Department of Public Works Secretary Ray N. Yumul wrote a letter to Department of the Interior Assistant Secretary for Insular Affairs Carmen Cantor to express his “strong support” for a Technical Assistance Program grant application submitted by the CNMI Infrastructure and Recovery Program.

He said the IRP has been instrumental in providing technical permitting assistance to complete government infrastructure and disaster recovery projects in the CNMI.

Since its inception, Yumul said the IRP has worked closely with DPW’s Technical Services Division to ensure that the department’s various construction projects are progressing on time and meeting grant requirements.

Yumul said the CNMI has been facing challenges in the aftermath of several natural disasters which have severely damaged the infrastructure and economy of the islands.

The IRP, he said, has played a crucial role in supporting infrastructure development by providing the necessary technical and administrative support to complete infrastructure projects.

Yumul said a Technical Assistance Program will enable the IRP to continue providing technical permitting assistance to CNMI government agencies so they can meet federal and local permitting requirements.

He added that the IRP has a proven track record of delivering results, and its staffers are dedicated to helping DPW meet project deadlines.

“I am confident that with this [TAP] grant, IRP will be able to continue its important work,” Yumul said.

He added that the grant will help ensure that the CNMI continues to make progress in its recovery efforts and in building a “stronger, more resilient future.”
