Adachi made the appeal following the report of huge amount of dead fish suspected to be a result of dynamite fishing found floating between the Risong area and Rock Island, last week.
“I am urging and asking the cooperation of everybody to inform the Koror Sate Ranger or the Public Safety regarding the illegal fishing activity,” Adachi said.
Adachi said the cooperation of the public is important to prevent the illegal fishing activity since the KSG has no enough budget or resources to monitor every single portion of Koror waters.
Adachi also believes that the killing of dugongs may have been related to dynamite fishing.
“Although it has not scientifically proven yet, but our veterinarian seems to infer that it maybe related to dynamite,” he said.
Risong area is one of the tourist sites of Koror State. Adachi said that if the illegal fishing will not be prevented it may also affect the marine organism.
This was the third time since last year that suspected dynamite fishing has been discovered.
Adachi said the Division of Fish and Wildlife is conducting investigation about the matter, but no suspects yet have been identified.
Over 500 fish were estimated to have been found dead including the smach. The dead fish were discovered by the beach boys of the Koror State Rangers office while they were conducting clean-up drive at the Rock Islands in Ngerbeched.
