Additional waste stations to construct soon

According to Travis August, manager recycling center of KSSWM, the inspection was already done. The KSSWM’s waiting are permits from the Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB) and from the Building and Zoning Commission (BZC) before they will begin the project.

August said the earth moving and solid waste operating permits from EQPB and the building permit from BZC will be probably released this week.

He said that once the permits are received then the bidding process will be started as soon as possible.

August estimates that the project is expected to start before end of this year.

“The grant will lapse on March 2011 so we need to start the project before end of the year.” August said.

These 30 additional waste segregation stations will be placed in Medalaii, Iyebukel, Idid and Ikelau hamlets.

Last March 3, Japan government through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) granted $38,250 for the construction of the project.

The construction of additional waste segregation stations will enable to each household in Koror to segregate waste effectively.

Meanwhile, after the renovation and building of KSSWM facilities at M-dock, the office is planning to have a new building for paper grader machine and bagging system machine next year.

This building is eyeing to establish at the back of the composting facility.
