The two LB of the KSG are: LB No. 9-20 to require non-commercial fishing licenses for all Palauans who are not citizens of the State of Koror and LB No. 9-23 to require separate permits to all visitors and Palauan citizens in visiting Rock Islands and Jellyfish Lake.
Gov. Victoria Kanai said the KSG have all the rights to implement the measures but it should be timely.
“I know how they are really affected. I think the concern measures are timely appropriate to be imposed.”
Kanai said that they will wait and see of what the KSG will do before they will make decisions.
“We’re currently aware and ready to also protect our environment for the sake of our citizens,” the governor added.
Kanai together with Speaker Mason Whipps of the Airai State Legislature attended the public hearing on legislative bills of the KSG on Thursday also with the Ngaraard Governor.
Governors and Speakers of the States of Kayangel, Ngiwal, Melekeok and Ngchesar were also scheduled to attend the hearing on July 1 but failed to participate.
Ngiwal State Gov. Masasinge Arurang said that he failed to attend because he went to the budget hearing of the Obiil Era Kelulau (OEK). However he was represented by his Speaker Ngiraibai Gregorio DEcherong of the Kelulul A. Kiuluul.
Ngchesar State Gov., Romana Anastacio also failed to join the public hearing because she attended a graduation ceremony. However, Anastacio said that she has no comments on the Koror State measures.
She said that it is the rights of the KSG to implement the measures or fees butit must to be uniform fees.
“We are in one nation we have to be all together and guided by one rule.” Anastacio said.
She said that like in their State they were suppose to impose $5 to everyone who wants to visit their historical parks. But no one will enforce the fee that is why everybody is welcome to visit their historical sites.
