An energy action plan needed immediately

Del. Lentcer Basilius said an action plan for a comprehensive and effective energy plan is a proactive approach to the problem.

Basilius said as it is the Palau Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC) is having a hard time with constant repair and most of the generators can only be pushed for another five years.Basilius, who is the chair of the House Committee on Energy Communication and Transportation said that the purpose of the resolution is for the president to implement an energy plan for the country.“This committee strongly feels that with the current condition of our power generators we are using now, in providing energy need to the general public are in serious need for repair and also a new spare parts in order to keep up with the increased demand for more reliable energy from the public, “Basilius said.He said the action should be taken now and the more delays, the more the power plant is depleting.House Joint Resolution 8-5-1S was first introduced by seven members of the  HOD  in March. Basilius thanked the Senate for the adoption of the resolution.He added that without an action plan, the energy problemsis hurting the economy.He added that there is a need to look for alternative source of energy because repairsis too costly.When the delegates where entertaining the resolution, Palau was already faced with frequent power outages on a daily basis.At that time government offices and private businesses were on a power schedule caused by faulty generators that needed major mechanical repairs.The delegates in its resolution said that there is a need for the   major overhaul of the existing power system of Palau.The resolution was introduced by Delegates Lentcer Basilius, Horace Rafael, Swenny Ongidobel, Secilil Eldebechel, Tmewang Rengulbai, Wayne Andrew and HOD Floor Leader Gibson Kanai.
