SAIPAN Mayor David Mundo Apatang on Tuesday appointed Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council Chair Ana Demapan Castro as the acting mayor.
Apatang left the island Tuesday morning on a personal trip. He will join CNMI residents in the U.S. who will celebrate Labor Day on Sept. 5.
Apatang is the running mate of independent gubernatorial candidate Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios.
In his notice to the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the government, Apatang said, “I will be out of the municipality of Saipan on personal business beginning August 30, 2022, until my return. By this memorandum, I have appointed Ms. Ana D. Castro, chairperson of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council, to be acting mayor.”
He added, “Please extend your cooperation and understanding to Ms. Castro as she assumes this temporary appointment.”
Castro is a Precinct 3 House candidate of the NMI Republican Party.
