Tua Tmetuchl, the women’s organization president said that the event will start at 7 p.m. but registration will start at 6 p.m.
Tmetuchl said that the first and second place winners of the Spelling Bee will have a chance to participate in regional spelling bee in Guam.First Lady Valeria Toribiong said that the spelling bee event has helped elementary students get better results in their SAT exams.Tmetuchl said in 1995, 1996, 1997, Palau produced regional champions.Last year, Kleinton Rivera, a 7th grader at Meyuns Elementary School was the 2008 Didil Belau Elementary Spelling Bee Champion .A total of 61 students entered the spelling bee from elementary schools throughout Palau. Tmetuchl said that corporate sponsors have made donations to the event.Shell Palau has donated an amount of $1,500 for the event.
