On Jan. 1, 2023, she was informed by the Burger King McLamore Foundation that she was selected to receive a $40,000 scholarship award to be used for education-related expenses such as tuition fees and books.
An AVID and AP honor student, Sablan, 17, was accepted to Stanford University but she chose to attend Texas Tech University to stay closer to her family. She is the daughter of Joseph Babauta and Nadine Sablan.
According to her grandmother, Kina Sablan, Patricia, who has a GPA of 4.0, is also a recipient of the Tylenol FutureCare Scholarship program which awarded her $6,000.
Patricia Sablan said she has a long way to go, but with God by her side she will get there.
“If there is one thing that her family is proud of is that she speaks and understands Chamorro fluently,” her father John Babauta said. “It makes me happy because it’s easy for her to communicate with our elderly,” he added.
