Australian navy struck a car while driving under the influence of alcohol

Vice President Elias Camsek Chin said that the sailor went out for a drink in one of the bars here during their stay in Palau.The Australian navy drank six packs of beer and got into a car later and drove.Chin said investigation disclosed that the navy was not paying attention to his driving and got into an accident later.The navy struck another car but Chin said no one was badly hurt during the incident.The car was heavily damaged, according to Chin but the sailor agreed to pay for the damages.Chin said the sailor was brought in for questioning and was released later.The ship left Palau on June 21and went back to Darwin, Australia.Chin said the case is still under investigation and it’s up to the Status of Force Agreement to determine if there is a case against the sailor.Chin said if there’s a cause to charge the sailor, he will come back to Palau to face the charges.“But it’s up to them to determine or to implement some disciplinary action against the sailor but he is willing to come back to face his charges in case he will be charged,”Chin said then added;“It’s not really worth it to be drinking and driving.”
