BECQ: Dispose of your junk vehicles properly

BUREAU of Environmental and Coastal Quality Environmental Specialist Michael “Mike” Flores is encouraging community members to be responsible when disposing of their junk vehicles.

The Saipan Mayor’s Office, BECQ and other regulatory agencies are stepping up their efforts in addressing the island’s perennial problems with illegal dumping and junk vehicles.

Flores said they have noticed an accumulation of abandoned vehicles not only in residential areas, but also at recycling and junk-car removal businesses.

“We visit these businesses and we tell them to apply for permits so that we can have an accounting of the junk vehicles on island…and then get rid of them,” he said.

He noted that in these tough economic times when work hours are being cut and every penny counts, community members should at least dispose of their garbage properly and avoid littering.

As for the junk vehicles, he said, “the least we can do is to tow them away and communicate with the right agencies on how to properly dispose [of] them.”

On March 9, 2023, Saipan Mayor Ramon B. Camacho urged the public to contact his office for any requests related to the removal of junk vehicles.
