KOROR (Palau Horizon) – The Bentprop Team is presently in Palau to continue their expedition this year to find clues that may lead to the location and identification of wreck sites to recover remains of missing American soldiers.
Pat Scannon, Team leader said that this year’s expedition will compose of two major targets, the Malakal Harbor and Arkabesang area.
This year the team is using a Marine Sonic equipment to look for WWII aircrafts which crashed in Palau waters.
He said that the expedition also brings them to the jungles of Palau specifically in Ngatpang and Aimeliik States.
Bentprop is composed of individuals who volunteered to gather information that may lead to the recovery of the remains of the missing U.S. servicemen.
This year’s team are composed of nine members, thet are Scannon, Flip Colmer, Joe Maldangesang, Rick Smith, Paul Schwimmer, Warren Bruce, Derek Abbey, Jack Herbert and Mike Raible.
There is at least 15 believed to be prisoner of wars (POW) in Palau and at least 70 Missing in Action (MIA).
He said the expedition started in 1993 and the team worked closely with the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) based in Hawaii.
Recovery mission conducted by JPAC in Palau in the past years was based on information gathered by Bentprop.
This year’s expedition started in Feb. and will end on March 12.
