Bill eyed allowing floating hotels in Koror State waters under review

These two bills were forwarded to the committee chaired by Legislator Mengkur Rechelulk to conduct public hearing and for further review.

The Legislature Bill No. 9-10, repealing the Koror State Public Law (KSPL) No. K6-87-98 prohibits the entry, operation or maintenance of floating hotels, introduced by Legislator Ngirmang, stated that with tourism declining due to economic concerns, and with new technologies that reduce environmental impacts, floating hotels do not appear to pose any threat to the marine environment and therefore floating hotel operations should be allowed.

Ngirmang believes that with the proposed measure, investors will have the opportunity to operate floating hotels within the Koror State waters that will help to generate income for the state.

Meanwhile the proposed Legislature Bill No. 9-9 to extend the sunset date for Cruising Yacht permit Act was introduced after the Koror State Public Law K6-107-2000 that requires permit to be obtained by the owners and operators of cruising yachts when such yachts anchor, moor or dock within the territorial waters of the Koror State was already expired on January 3, 2010.

Under the proposed measure the sunset date for Cruising Yacht permit will extend until January 3, 2020.
