Bill proposes music education be part of school curriculum

Senate Bill 8-134 was introduced during the last day of the regular session, Thursday night.

“Music education not only increases a child’s ability to think analytically , but it gives a child a life-long opportunity for creative expression,” the measure stated.

He added , schools presently do not include music as a subject.

The measure added that given the opportunity, the students will have access to musical training that is why the Ministry of Education should establish a music education program.

The measure also includes a proposal that physical education requirements should also be expanded.

The current law requires an educational program for baseball.

“Requiring only baseball limits student’s options and does not give them an opportunity to discover other physical activities they may enjoy or thrive at playing,” the bill stated.

He added that the curriculum should include a number of different sports.
