BLS Director Gilbert Demei however clarified that BLS will continue to exist after Aug. 11 but under the law cadastral, filing of claims, and monumentation will no longer be performed by the agency. He said under the law, these works cannot be continued by the BLS unless a new law ss enacted.RPPL 7-26 mandates that after Aug. 11, monumentation, cadastral work and filing of claims will no longer be part of the BLS work.“The bureau will continue on,” Demei said.Last week the Senate passed on third and final reading the Consumer Protection Act measure which contains a rider extending the BLS’s work. The measure was however rejected by the House of Delegates. The HOD instead placed the provision as a rider to the supplemental budget bill. The bill was approved by the House of Delegates (HOD) and transmitted to the Senate for approval. The Senate earlier approved the supplemental budget measure and sent to the HOD. The HOD introducing several amendments including the BLS extension, sent it back to the Senate for approval.Demei said the Senate is set to conduct a session this morning to act on the measure.“The BLS including the land registration officers (LROs) will not continue to conduct cadastral work until the new law is signed by the president,” Demei said.
