TWO newly arrived individuals have been confirmed positive for Covid-19, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. reported on Friday. This brings the CNMI’s total to 166 cases since March 28, 2020.
CHCC said the individuals were identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through testing upon arrival on April 29, 2021. They have been moved to the designated isolation area for close monitoring, and the CHCC Communicable Disease Investigation/Inspection team has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed cases, including passengers on the same flight.
Of the CNMI’s total Covid-19 cases, 130 were identified through travel screening at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport: 80 from the U.S., 35 from a U.S. territory, and 15 from a foreign country. Thirty-six of the total cases were identified through community screening: 11 through community-based testing or at CHCC, and 25 through contact tracing.
Since last year, there have been two deaths. Currently, there are three cases undergoing a 14-day incubation period.
On Guam, the Joint Information Center said five new cases of Covid-19 were identified out of 429 tests performed on Thursday, April 29. To date, on Guam, there have been a total of 7,964 officially reported cases of Covid-19 with 136 deaths, 89 cases in active isolation, and 7,739 not in active isolation.
