This seminar will be held following the series of bushfire and house fire incidents that affectedthousandssquare meters of wild land and properties.
.Fire Division Chief Benhart Baulechong said theaim of the seminar is to educate the public of some safety measures to prevent blazes.
“Fire incident is common during the dry season from January through March.” Baulechong said.
Based on the Fire Division record at least five cases of bushfire and two house fires incidents were reported from January up to the second week of February.
Hundred acres of wild land, trees and animals were been damaged by the grassfire, according to fire officials
Fire officials said that due to the lack of personnel and because of old fire trucks, incidents, fire personnel are reportedly facing difficulties in performing their job,
“Our fire trucks are more than 35 years. These vehiclesare second handfrom theUnited States of America. They used them first for 20 years beforegiving them to Palau.” Baulechong said in an interview
He also added that due to the shortage of fire personnel, three prisoners, whom they consider as trustee from the Division of Corrections were deployed in his officeto help and provide assistance.
Baulechong, however, said he already sought grant to the Japan Embassy and other non-government organizations (NGO’s) for fire equipments.
