Cambodia envoy meets Pierantozzi

Envoy Veng Sereyvuth was sent to Cambodia to Palau to seek the country’s support on its bid for a seat in the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO.

Sereyvuth met with President Johnson Toribiong first and then with Minister Pierantozzi to present Cambodia’s request.

The two discussed formulation of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Special Envoy was Cambodia’s first Minister of Tourism and worked to increase the number of tourist visitors to Cambodia from 500,000 in the mid 90s to its current three million tourists per year and could assist Palau in its tourism development.

As it turned out , both Pierantozzi and Sereyvuth had been classmates in 2002 in taking the leadership in Government program at JFK School Government at Harvard.

After hosting lunch for the Ambassador , Pierantozzi announced Palau will support Cambodia’s bid for a seat in the World Heritage Committee.

Although Cambodia has been a member of UNESCO for many years , this is the first time that it is seeking a seat in the Committee.
