During the month of August, CAT 01-25 was extremely busy. They showed movies to 416 people at various locations, participated in a flag raising ceremony in Peleliu, played music during the weekly radio show on 87.9 the EP, participated in the mentoring program called “Scream,” mowed and cleaned two schools in preparation for the first day of school, built and installed two flag poles at Maris Stella school, repaired an Airai community road, removed a tree that that was blocking a road in topside (with the locals), and towed a school bus. With all that being done, the CAT has also been constructing a restroom facility for the elementary school on the Island of Angaur. The team has had many challenges getting their heavy construction equipment and materials across the ocean to the remote island. The team has utilized the state barge, a contracted barge, and their 25’ Boston Whaler to accomplish this task. “Each week is a challenge to get the team down to the island to work because of weather and sea state condition,” said SW1 Michael Barbee. At this time the restroom facility is approximately 30 percent complete and it has been and continues to be a great project for this Civic Action Team. The team seems to enjoy and welcome the challenges that are associated with their construction projects because it keeps them alert and makes them provide alternate solutions to the issues that arise. The team will continue to look forward and keep working as hard as they can to finish the Angaur restroom facility. “We press hard each and every week because we want these children and teachers to have a new facility as soon as possible,” SW3 Jose Camargo.
