‘Cebu Air flights will reduce air fares’

KOROR (Palau Horizon) — The planned Manila-Koror-Saipan route of Cebu Pacific Air may lead to lower international travel rates, President Tommy Remengesau said.

During the Environmental Protection Agency conference held here, Remengesau said he and CNMI Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente discussed the feasibility of a Manila-Koror flight.

Remengesau said he welcomes the plan and will be working with CNMI officials in making it possible.

Remengesau said he will also help Cebu Pacific secure a Koror route.

Cebu-Pacific, the second largest airline in the Philippines had expressed interest in the Koror-Saipan route.

Cebu Pacific officials met with CNMI officials led by Benavente in Manila last May.

“There is room for other airlines and this will lower rates with competition coming in,” Remengesau said.

Continental Micronesia currently serves the Koror-Manila route.

Rock Island Air, which is set to be launched soon, also plans to provide a flight service to Manila, but Remengesau said it will concentrate first on the Palau-Guam-FSM routes.
