Chalan Kanoa store burglarized

FZ Market on Beach Road in Chalan Kanoa, which first opened its doors in May 2021, lost an undetermined amount of money, including the change fund, as well as cigarettes and beer, in a burglary and theft incident. The store was not robbed, as earlier reported.

A store clerk told Variety that the perpetrator(s) broke the back door to gain entry into the store.

According to the Department of Public Safety, on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, at about 6:34 a.m., it received a 911 call reporting a “robbery incident” at FZ Mart.

At the scene, the caller stated that they arrived at the store earlier that morning at about 6 a.m., and noticed that there were scattered items in the cash register area, on the floor and countertop.

Although the perpetrator(s) damaged the security cameras within the store, the caller was able to retrieve some footage which was later shown to the police.

At this time the stolen items and amount of money are still unknown pending an inventory, DPS said.

DPS would like to remind members of the public “to be diligent if a person you know suspiciously has a lump sum of money.”
