CHCC: 1 new Covid-19 case

ANOTHER traveler tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, raising the CNMI’s total confirmed cases to 145 since March 28, 2020.

Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. spokesman Lee Tenorio said the individual was identified on the fifth day of testing, and not upon arrival at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport as earlier reported.

The individual has been safely in quarantine in the designated isolation area for close monitoring, Tenorio said.

In addition, CHCC has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed case, including passengers on the same flight.

There are five persons in isolation at the Covid-19 Task Force designated quarantine site at the former Mariana Resort & Spa in Marpi, Tenorio said, adding that 150 have been released based on CHCC and Centers of Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

CHCC said 119 of the 145 cases in the CNMI were diagnosed through travel screening, 10 through community-based testing, and 16 through contact tracing.

As of February 2021, the Commonwealth Ports Authority said only one international airline — United Airlines — continued to operate on Saipan, albeit only three times a week and with a limited passenger load.

On Guam, as of Sunday, there was a total of 7,749 officially reported cases of Covid-19 with 133 deaths, 26 cases in active isolation, and 7,590 not in active isolation.
