CHCC joins Association of Clinicians for the Underserved

THE Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation is the newest organizational member of the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved or ACU.

Founded in 1996 by the National Health Service Corps, the ACU is a transdisciplinary membership organization, uniting clinicians, advocates, and organizations in the shared mission to improve the health of America’s underserved populations, and to support the clinicians serving them.

It strives to establish a robust and diverse workforce to help transform communities to achieve health equity for all, providing professional education, training and technical assistance, clinical tools, and other services to support clinicians and organizations caring for medically underserved communities.

ACU’s membership includes diverse organizations across the nation, such as federally qualified health centers, primary care associations, free clinics, health departments, and clinicians from multiple professional disciplines.

Some of its recent programs to improve care for the underserved include the STAR2 — Solutions, Training, and Assistance for Recruitment and Retention — Center, which helps build and sustain workforce through resources, trainings, and technical assistance for health centers, personal care assistants, and Health Center Controlled Networks.

It also includes a Suicide Safer Care, or a curriculum that trains primary care providers and their teams in evidence-based strategies to prevent suicide in primary care.

Programs also include an initiative to improve eye and vision health for the underserved through mobile vision screenings and grants for health centers.

In addition to its growing programs, the ACU trains thousands of clinicians annually in its virtual and in-person annual conferences and webinars, including its annual conference, standalone webinars, and workforce trainings.
