Child care providers participate in health and safety training

(Press Release) — On May 7, 2022, eight participants from three childcare centers on Saipan welcomed the month of May  with another  set of health  and safety  training sessions  conducted by Evergreen Learning quality care specialist Maricar I. Pena at Evergreen Learning training center, in Chalan Kanoa, Saipan. The two training sessions, each two hours long, were on Precaution in Transporting Children and Building and Physical premises safety.

During the morning session  on Precaution  in Transporting  Children, participants discussed the rationale for learning about safe transportation of children, identified hazards in and around vehicles, and determined ways to protect children from risk and injury from those hazards. Participants also learned how to choose the best safety seat for children.

For the afternoon  session on Building  and Physical  Premises Safety,  participants reflected on childhood injury experiences, explored the need to learn about injuries and hazards in the childcare setting, outlined standard requirements for ensuring building and physical premises safety, discussed safety equipment, recalled requirements in compliance with fire prevention codes, and identified hazards in and around the premises, including the playground.

The Child Care Reauthorization  Act of 2014 requires that all  CCDF providers must complete preservice training requirements in 12 topics areas before they can be left alone to work with young children. Building and Physical Premises Safety and Precaution in Transporting Children meet these requirements.
