CHRISTOPHER Concepcion will return to the Marianas Visitors Authority as its managing director again starting next week.
Concepcion confirmed his appointment on Wednesday but declined to elaborate.
“MVA will issue a press statement,” he added.
In 2016, Concepcion was appointed by the board of directors as MVA’s managing director succeeding Perry Tenorio who was retiring.
After three years, Concepcion resigned in 2019, saying: “It’s been a fun ride. But I think it’s time. I’m tired.” He told the board members, “This job has driven me. Everybody tells me I have more gray hair now.”
In 2019, Concepcion became deputy director of the Office of Planning and Development. He is also the current chairman of the Garapan Revitalization Task Force.
After six years of growth, CNMI tourist arrivals declined in 2018. It was the Covid-19 restrictions in 2020, however, that all but shut down the local tourism industry. Arrivals plummeted to 88,172 in 2020 from 487,008 in 2019. In 2021 and 2022, arrivals totaled 12,684 and 96,432.
