Close to 100 join DYS motorcade, roadside waving activity

CLOSE to 100 members of the community on Friday joined the Division of Youth Services in a motorcade and roadside waving activity as part of the campaign for child abuse and neglect prevention awareness.

The motorcade started at the softball field on Capital Hill and ended at the San Jose-Beach Road intersection where participants gathered for roadside waving.

DYS Director Vivian Sablan thanked everyone who came out to support the events during which participating members of the community wore blue shirts and pin wheels.

“We are out here speaking on behalf of the victims and promoting awareness so that we can prevent child abuse and neglect in the community,” Sablan said.

Julian Camacho of DYS child protective services said they were very pleased with the good turnout. “We’re happy to see the community come out and be with us today as part of the campaign against child abuse and neglect.”

Last week, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios proclaimed April as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Awareness Month.

Sablan said DYS will continue to provide prevention programs and intervention services “to highlight and build on family protective factors while also working toward reducing risk factors in its continued efforts to ultimately strengthen families in the CNMI.”
