CNMI Homeland Security wants to discuss tsunami evacuation plan with Legislature

CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management is requesting the presiding officers of the Legislature to set a meeting to discuss tsunami evacuation planning.

In collaboration with Pacific Coastal Research & Planning, HSEM conducted a series of townhalls last month to develop community-based tsunami evacuation plans.

For the residents of Achugao, the townhall meeting was held at Tanapag Elementary School; for the residents of Garapan, the meeting was held at Garapan Elementary School; for the residents of Susupe and Chalan Kanoa, the meeting was held at Marianas High School; and for the residents of San Antonio, the meeting was held at Hopwood Middle School.

In his separate request letters to Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero and Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez, Special Assistant for HSEM Franklin R. Babauta said he was hoping to meet with the lawmakers on April 20.

Babauta said HSEM would like to share data that the agency has collected so far, as well as some of the feedback from community members.
