Adoption and food distribution event on Oct 28th

Garapan, Saipan — On Saturday, October 28th, 2023, the Saipan Humane Society (SHS) hosted a heartwarming and successful adoption and food distribution event at the Fishing base in Garapan, as part of their ongoing commitment to support the local community and its beloved furry companions. The event took place at the Saturday Farmer’s Market from 7:00 am to 11:00 am.

The event garnered tremendous community support, with a total of two puppies finding loving forever homes and over 60 bags of pet food distributed to residents. The first 10 bags were handed out within just five minutes, illustrating the significant demand for affordable pet food on the island.

Ruby Ma, Clinic Manager of Saipan Humane Society, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We always heard that there’s usually a shortage of dog food on the island, and the price is high, so we would like to offer any help within our ability to the community.” She extended her gratitude to the U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia, Sector Guam, and Guam Animal In Need for their generous donations. She also acknowledged the Boonie Flight Project for coordinating the logistics from Guam to Saipan in May of this year, which facilitated the distribution of vital supplies.

Notably, The Shack store manager MaryJane Sikebert and three staff members joined as volunteers during the event, exemplifying the collaborative spirit within the community. They actively engaged in socializing the dogs and puppies, packing pet food for distribution, and explaining how to stay updated with SHS through social media.  MaryJane Sikebert  , store manager from the Shack, emphasized their commitment, saying, “As the Shack, we’ll do our very best to get more involved and help out as much as we can.”

Saipan Humane Society is excited to announce that they will be hosting another adoption and food distribution event at the Shack on Saturday, November 25th. The organization encourages people to stay connected and informed by following them on their Facebook and Instagram pages (@saipanhumanesociety) for further details and updates on their upcoming initiatives.

The Saipan Humane Society remains dedicated to its mission of improving the welfare of animals and strengthening the bonds between pets and their human companions. Through events like these, they are not only finding forever homes for animals but also addressing essential needs in the community. Their ongoing efforts are a testament to the power of collective goodwill and the impact it can have on the lives of those in need.
