Bank of Hawai‘i employees raise $585,489 for Aloha United Way

HONOLULU (BoH) – Bank of Hawai‘i employees and retirees donated $585,489 for its 2024 Live Kōkua Giving Campaign, the bank’s biggest annual giving event.

The campaign, which ran from Sept. 9 to Dec. 6, raised funds for a range of nonprofits, including more than 300 partnered with Aloha United Way.

In addition, this year the bank’s four employee resource groups (Nā ‘Ōiwi Aloha, Women Inspired, RainBOH and Blue Brigade) each selected an organization to support (Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi, Maʻi Movement, Hawaiʻi LGBT Legacy Foundation and US VETS Hawaiʻi).

Employees had the choice to donate to any nonprofit through AUW, and funds raised at corporate campaign events were split evenly among the aforementioned nonprofits. Corporate events, such as bingo, food and craft festivals, and pau hanas, were a big hit with Bank of Hawai‘i teammates.

Since the campaign’s launch in 2010, employees have raised $8,793,161 for nonprofits across Hawaiʻi and the West Pacific.

Bank of Hawai‘i Chairman and CEO Peter S. Ho presented a check to Aloha United Way President and CEO John Fink on Wednesday evening, Dec. 11. Nearly 600 employees gathered at the bank’s Main Branch in downtown Honolulu, where the donation was announced at the 13th annual Bankoh Tree Lighting Celebration, which included the bank’s official Christmas tree lighting, trolley rides to enjoy Honolulu City Lights, caroling and holiday treats.

“I’m incredibly proud of and inspired by the generosity and passion of our employees and retirees,” said Peter Ho. “This campaign is entirely employee-led and it’s wonderful to see entire bank ʻohana come together with such fervor for the causes dear to them. Whether it’s donating time or funds, each teammate’s gift helps amplify the positive impact in our community.”

Together, Bank of Hawai‘i, its Foundation, bank employees and retirees donated more than $3 million to the community in 2024.

In addition to our annual employee-led campaign, Bank of Hawai‘i supports the vision and services of hundreds of nonprofits in our community each year. In 2024, Bank of Hawai‘i Foundation donated to many causes, some of the included here:

• $400,000 to Hawaiʻi Community Lending’s Lahaina Homeowner Recovery Program (utilizing a 3:1 match from Federal Home Loan Bank – Des Moines) to assist 500 homeowners with foreclosure prevention and to help them qualify for financing to rebuild their homes;

•  $697,500 to Aloha United Way’s ALICE Initiative and ALICE Report to support programs focused on lifting local households to greater stability, including increased access to affordable housing;
