THE CNMI State Longitudinal Data System or SLDS is thrilled to announce the successful completion of a virtual site monitoring session with its grantors and stakeholders on Oct. 2, 2023, followed by an executive leadership onboarding and collaborative meeting with P-20W partners on October 3, 2023.
Originally planned as an on-site visit in the first week of October, the event transitioned to a virtual format due to the potential federal government shutdown. The virtual monitoring included a productive meeting with Nancy Sharkey, U.S. Department of Education lead SLDS grant manager; Corey Chatis, State Support Team TA expert; and various PSS CNMI Public School System staff in the SLDS data governance committee, PSS key management, school administrators, teachers, and users of the SLDS products.
Dr. Annette Pladevega-Sablan, the CNMI SLDS project director, stated, “Our dedication to advancing educational data systems remains resolute, even in the face of unique challenges.”
She expresses her appreciation to all participants for actively participating in the SLDS Virtual Monitoring.
The participants’ valuable comments and feedback provided essential insights that will help the SLDS team enhance workflow and products.
The constructive input will help identify areas for improvement and refine our content and delivery. A key takeaway from the feedback was the clear understanding of the purpose and success of the SLDS grant. Another notable point is the collaborative decision-making process involving various stakeholders.
While there was praise for the open and collaborative nature of the SLDS team, there was also a suggestion for improved communication and documentation. These key significant insights from the collaborative meeting will guide the CNMI SLDS team as they continue their mission to strengthen educational data systems and drive excellence in the CNMI educational landscape.
During the second day of this virtual session, the CNMI SLDS team engaged in fruitful discussions and data-sharing with their P-20W partners, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to expanding and enhancing the data system. This effort seamlessly aligns with the objectives of the FY2023 SLDS grant, which aims to strengthen education data infrastructure from pre-kindergarten through the workforce.
Joining Dr. Pladevega-Sablan, Jeaniffer Cubangbang, and Ferdinand Ngirmekur, from the CNMI SLDS team were key figures, including Donna Flores (PSS Interim Commissioner of Education), Dr. Rizalina Liwag (Senior Director of PSS Accountability, Research & Evaluation), Jesse Tenorio (PSS Director of State Infrastructure & Technology), Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero (President of Northern Marianas College), Leila Staffler (Secretary of the CNMI Department of Labor), Tracy Norita (Secretary of Finance), Jodina Attao (Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Marianas Technical Institute), and Justin Andrew (Central Statistics Division Director of the Department of Commerce). This collaborative gathering underscores the shared commitment to advancing educational outcomes in CNMI through data-driven initiatives.
