“THE biggest culture shock was simply being a first-time ever entrepreneur, and I was hooked and fascinated then (1989) and still now in 2026!” says Donna Krum, president and co-owner of Paradise Dental Spa. “I loved the dental profession from day one, as it truly is all about helping people.”
At Paradise Dental Spa, the reception area looks like a “living room,” rather than a traditional dental office “waiting room.” Comfortable lounge chairs, a big screen television, local art, and a conference table for those who need to work. Donna’s favorite sight is when patients fall asleep in the chairs while waiting for their family member to finish their dental appointment!
Treatment rooms feature therapeutic-grade essential oils, flat screen monitors, fresh flowers, blankets, pillows, and a hot moist towel at the end of each visit.
Paradise Dental Spa’s commitment to health goes far deeper than comfort. “This, by far, is the major focus for Paradise Dental Spa in 2026,” Donna explains about educating the community on oral health and overall wellness. “The fact that statistics show that only 11% of the population is aware of this mouth-body connection,” Paradise Dental Spa has expanded outreach through social media, school visits, health fairs, and speaking engagements.
Digital scanners and one-day crowns save busy island residents time. Our new denture technology allows “one-day dentures” and means fewer return visits to the dentist for adjustments. They are the only dental office in the Western Pacific region to offer this denture technology.
Their Island Smiles Discount Dental Plan offers members 50% off standard dental fees. Our motto for the dental plan is ‘making modern dentistry affordable,'” she says. It is the most affordable dental plan in the CNMI.
Beyond dentistry, Donna lives by a simple philosophy that has guided her success. “Show Up & Play Nice” describes her professional goals and outreach to a “T,” and it is the cornerstone of her personal success. “Don’t miss anything and always try to be a bright spot in someone’s day!” Donna says. She and Dr. Nelson Krum are both personal development “junkies” who learned early on the value of a good attitude. “I also see a positive attitude as a way to honor my daughter, Kristen,” who she lost in 2005.
Her advice for readers seeking a healthier lifestyle reflects the wisdom of someone entering what she calls “Act 3” of life. “As Dr. Krum and I enter our ‘Act 3’ of life, the best advice is to focus on eating real food, not too much, move your body every day, and make sure you have good social connections. Health is Wealth, which is also one of the main reasons we want to keep expanding the game of Pickleball in the CNMI.”
“If you love your dental office, be sure and tell them! If you don’t give Paradise Dental Spa a try,” says Donna.
