(SHS) — The Saipan Humane Society is excited to announce two visiting veterinary teams arriving in October to provide much-needed medical care for island pets, along with a community event offering free dog food and parasite prevention supplies.
From Oct. 13 to 24, SHS will host its third Mars Ambassador Program trip, featuring Dr. Julie Thorndyke and Veterinary Technician Shaina. Following that, from Oct, 28 to Nov. 12, Dr. Morgan Vrana and Veterinary Technician Carla will join the SHS team to continue providing veterinary care and education.
While previous clinics focused primarily on spay and neuter surgeries, both upcoming October clinics will center on general check-ups, medical consultations, and special surgical cases. This allows SHS to address a broader range of health concerns, such as chronic skin issues, injuries, and long-term medical needs, while preparing for the next large-scale sterilization clinic.
Sabalu Market community event
As part of SHS’s continued outreach to support local pet owners, a free dog food and Seresto collar distribution event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Sabalu Market on Beach Road, beginning at 8 a.m.
Distribution will be first come, first served, and community members are encouraged to bring their animals to ensure proper fitting of Seresto collars.
Seresto collars are long-lasting flea and tick prevention collars that protect dogs for up to eight months, helping prevent tick-borne diseases and skin irritation caused by external parasites — a common concern in Saipan’s tropical environment.
This outreach event is made possible through the generous support of Wilderdog, whose donation of dog food is helping local families care for their pets during ongoing economic challenges.
“We are so grateful for the continued support from our partners and visiting veterinarians,” said Ruby Ma, clinic director at SHS. “Every visit strengthens our ability to provide consistent, compassionate care for animals on the island and supports our mission to keep pets healthy and families supported.”
The Saipan Humane Society extends its appreciation to the Mars Ambassador Program, Wilderdog, and all volunteers who make these efforts possible. Together, we continue building a healthier and more compassionate community for people and their pets.
