(DPS) — On Jan. 14, 2025, the Department of Public Safety donated two infant car seats, and two convertible car seats to Karidat Social Services. The seats will be used by staff of Guma Esperansa during transport of clients. The seats were procured through the State and Community Highway Safety Grant Program provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The donation is part of DPS’ community outreach in educating and enforcing the use of car seats. Infant and child car seats have numerous advantages that contribute to the safety and well-being of children while traveling. Significant benefits include the reduction in the risk of fatalities and serious injuries by up to 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

Additionally, car seats prevent ejection from the vehicle, absorb crash forces, and provide proper restraint, keeping children securely in place. Car seats are designed to meet strict safety standards, ensuring they provide optimal protection for children. With features like easy installation, adjustability, and long-term protection, car seats offer parents peace of mind and help ensure their child’s safety while on the road.
