(PSS) — On Friday, Jan. 31, the Board of Education declared February as Career and Technical Education Month, joining the rest of the nation in celebrating the achievements and contributions of CTE programs.
BOE Chair Aschumar Kodep Ogumoro-Uludong signed the proclamation. With him were BOE member Maisie B. Tenorio, Commissioner of Education Dr. Lawrence F. Camacho, Senior Director for Instructional Services Dr. Rizalina Liwag, Senior Director for Student Support Services Jackie Quitugua, CTE Director Dr. Jessica B. Taylor, Human Resources Director Lucretia Deleon Guerrero, Instructional Technology and Distance Education Director Dr. Lorraine Catienza, Statewide Longitudinal Data System Project Director Dr. Annette Pladevega Sablan, other Public School System personnel, some of the beneficiaries of the PSS-CTE Program and House Floor Leader Marissa Flores.
One of the highlights of the proclamation signing ceremony were the remarks delivered by Tevin Dean, a Commonwealth HealthCare Corp. emergency room nursing assistant.
Dean was a cohort member of the PSS-CTE Certified Nursing Assistant Program two years ago. “I’m truly thankful that PSS offered this program, and it helped me pursue my dream,” he said.
The CTE Month proclamation highlights the importance of PSS’ investment in career-related and life skills pathways that are designed to support students seeking a career after high school.
PSS launched the CTE program in school-year 2009-2010 in response to the growing need to prepare students with real-life experience and address the growing demand for a highly trained and skilled local workforce.
CTE Month recognizes the critical role that career and technical education plays in equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving job market. The month-long observance emphasizes the diverse career pathways available to students through specialized training, technical skills, and workforce development programs.
CTE Month also aims to raise awareness of the many benefits of pursuing careers in education, healthcare, technology, business, and skilled trade.
Through its CTE program, PSS wants to inspire a future workforce that is skilled, innovative, and ready to meet the demands of a global economy.
