(NMC) — Northern Marianas College recently launched its new pre-engineering course, an engaging and hands-on program designed to introduce students to cutting-edge Computer-Aided Design or CAD tools and 3D printing technology.
This course develops student’s technical skills while exploring the vast possibilities within engineering and design fields.
Throughout the course, students are introduced to foundational CAD software to design and produce 3D-printed final projects.
The current students’ final products featured a range of shapes and designs — from snowmen and chess rooks to an innovative computer attachment engineered to hold papers conveniently alongside a computer screen.
Many of the faculty present during the presentations expressed interest in purchasing this design.
“This course not only empowers students with practical skills in CAD and 3D printing but also inspires them to envision the limitless possibilities within engineering and design. It’s exciting to see their creativity come to life through tangible projects,” said Velma C. Deleon Guerrero, Science, Math, Health and Athletics Department chair. “We’re proud to be laying a foundation for the future engineers, architects, and innovators of our community.”
The course also provided a platform for students to discuss their professional aspirations in the field of engineering. Ambitions ranged from becoming mechanical and civil engineers to pursuing careers as Formula 1 race car engineers and architects. This pre-engineering course is part of NMC’s broader initiative to equip students with the skills and experience needed for future careers in STEM fields.
