(SIS) — Saipan International School closed out its 30th anniversary celebration with excitement and cheers as the long-awaited boat raffle finally took place on Thursday last week in front of students, staff, families, and special guests.
The celebration began back in May with a lively Gala at the Crowne Plaza Resort, where guests enjoyed a silent auction and prizes that helped raise over $20,000 for the school. The highlight of the raffle was a 12-foot boat — complete with an 8 HP engine and trailer — generously donated by Quincy and Amanda Johnson, SIS alumni and children of Roland and Lou Johnson of Micronesia Marine.
Last week, that boat found a new home! Lou Johnson and SIS Student Council President Misha Kim drew the winning ticket in front of the entire school community. The lucky winners were Janet King and her children, Kate and Sammy Manglona.
Sammy, a 5th grader at SIS, stole the show. As soon as his family’s name was called, he leapt into the boat and broke into a happy dance, sending the crowd into laughter and applause. It was a joyful and fitting finale to SIS’s 30th anniversary year.
Headmaster Martin Jambor reflected, “This was such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate 30 years of learning, community, and growth at SIS. We’re so thankful to the Johnson family and to everyone who helped make this milestone so special.”
Founded in 1994, SIS continues to provide top-quality education in a warm, international environment. It remains the only school in Micronesia offering the AP Capstone program, and its graduates have gone on to attend Ivy League institutions and top universities around the world. From Pre-K through 12th grade, SIS students embrace learning and rise to every challenge — from the classroom to competitions like Math Court, Academic Challenge Bowl, Model United Nations, STEM fairs, and Spelling Bees.
