(SI-NMI) — Soroptimist International of the Northern Mariana Islands hosted its annual event celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of women in the community on February 15, 2025 at Charley’s Cabaret, Pacific Islands Club in Saipan. The evening was a tribute to the empowering work of women who dream big and overcome adversity, with a special focus on the “Live Your Dream Awards” and contributions from the local community.
The event was opened by mistress of ceremonies Mercilynn Kaneshi Palec, who welcomed a crowd of passionate supporters and distinguished guests. The Soroptimist International NMI chapter officers were introduced, including President Tania David, President Elect Maureen Sebangiol, and Secretary Erika Ann Palacios, and Treasurer Merle Byrd.
Soroptimist International of the Marianas Past President Jessica Castro delivered the evening’s welcoming remarks, highlighting the organization’s mission to empower women and girls, both locally and globally. Soroptimist International, a global network of women who work together to improve the lives of women and girls through education, access to resources, and health initiatives, serves as a beacon of hope for many. Also present to welcome guests was, SI-NMI President Tania David who also led the evening blessing.
The event featured a keynote address by Dina Tenorio, general manager of Latte Marine Diving & Salvage, who shared her journey as a seasoned commercial diver and business leader. Her work in marine construction and workforce development has had a lasting impact on the community, inspiring attendees with her dedication to empowering others.
One of the evening’s most exciting segments was the raffle prize drawing and silent auction, which raised valuable funds to support SI-NMI’s programs. All proceeds from these activities go toward Soroptimist’s mission to uplift women and girls in the community.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the coveted “Live Your Dream Awards.” The awards recognize women who provide primary financial support for their families while pursuing their educational goals. This year, three extraordinary women were honored:
• Lani Tarope received the Wish Award, an inspiring mother of three pursuing a degree in education with a passion for shaping the future of students.
• Clarissa Louis King received the Vision Award, an advocate for mental health and aspiring counselor with a commitment to supporting individuals in need, all while balancing her education and role as a mother.
• Jashlie Camacho was named the Live Your Dream Overall Awardee, recognized for her unwavering dedication to both her six children and her career as an administrative specialist. Jashlie is currently pursuing a degree in social work to make a lasting impact on her community.
The evening concluded with heartfelt words from Jashlie Camacho, who shared her journey and the impact of the award on her future aspirations. Soroptimist International of the Northern Mariana Islands extends its warmest congratulations to all the awardees and participants.
