Members of the Famago’un Marianas of Saipan Southern High School perform Chamorro Christmas carols at the manamko’ center on Friday.
THE Famagu’on Marianas of Saipan Southern High School brought the spirit of Christmas to the manamko’ center where they performed Chamorro carols for the senior citizens on Friday.
Famagu’on Marianas is a club of high school students who promote Chamorro culture and language. Its members are Logan Mendiola, Kyle Manalo, Kenny Dela Cruz, Tyrese Matsunaga, Avery Acebedo, Macfiel Sos, John Noble, Joseph Villagomez, Jared Villagomez, Manuel Sablan, Quinn Santos and Deidre Cabrera.
At the manamko’ center, they were accompanied by their advisors Peter Muna, Peter and Elena Deleon Guerrero.
Muna said the club is a “pretty new” youth organization, but is already doing a lot of things to promote Chamorro culture and language in the community.
He said aside from paying tribute to the senior citizens, they also wanted to showcase their musical talents as they performed in the local language.
Muna said the students presented what they learned from the past, and what they believe the youth of today should perpetuate by, among other things, promoting and speaking the Chamorro language.
