Compact Road beautification eyed to kick-off Green Revolution

In his presidential directive, the president formed a committee on Community and Compact Road beautification to “enhance the overall appearance of our communities and the Compact Road by planting endemic flowers and trees.”

He said the committee’s mission will directly support his Green Revolution initiative.

Earlier, Toribiong told reporters that among the government’s project this year is on expanding the farming areas in Babeldaob.

He said the plan is to plant fruit-bearing trees at the entire Babeldaob.

Among the trees that will be planted in the Babeldaob area are coconuts, summer trees and mangoes

The president said that through green revolution, food production locally will increase at the same time it will mean employment for locals.

The leader wants to develop the agricultural industry by developing wide varieties of crops that could be used to feed the country.

The president said this revolution will be funded to enable the states to jumpstart the project.

Aquaculture is also part of the development with a planned fish hatchery in Airai.

The committee he has formed will also provide support and advice to the 16 states of the republic on the beautification projects for their communities.

The committee will be composed of First Lady Valeria Toribiong, Laurinda Wasisang Mariur, Dilsechei Hilaria Lakobong, Sauluai Salvador, Mrs. Soaladaob, Terry Ngiraingas, Aurora De. Rosario, Ruth Gibbons and others who wish to join.

One of the duties of the committee is also to explore and recommend possible methods of funding for development of parks and recreational areas.
