Complaint: Man says being jobless led him to sell meth

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man charged with intent to distribute methamphetamine told police he was going to sell drugs because he was unemployed.

About 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, an officer with the Guam Police Department in the parking lot of Harmon Loop Hotel saw a vehicle with an expired registration tag that was being operated by Jerek Flores Valentine, 38.

According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam, Valentine exited the car and had a pouch slung over his shoulder, which was later searched.

During the search, the officer found a straw with a bevel-cut end which, based on the officer’s experience, is associated with methamphetamine sales and used to scoop quantities of meth.

Also found in the pouch were several clear plastic baggies of meth, a digital scale, numerous baggies and two glass pipes with suspected methamphetamine residue.

“The report stated that based upon the officer’s training and experience, the total weight of methamphetamine was over 15 grams, with an estimated street value of $100 a gram, which the officer believed is consistent with street-level sales rather than personal use,” the complaint stated.

A subsequent search of Valentine’s vehicle resulted in the officer finding two more plastic baggies of meth and another pipe with residue.

According to the complaint, Valentine admitted to owning the meth, saying he had purchased 25 grams “and that he planned to sell the methamphetamine because he was currently unemployed.”

Valentine was charged with possession with intent to deliver a Schedule II controlled substance as a first-degree felony and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance as a third-degree felony.

On Tuesday, during his magistrate’s hearing, Valentine was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
