HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A woman arriving in Guam from Hawaii allegedly hid straws and plastic bags of cocaine in three different pairs of jeans.
About 7:42 p.m. Wednesday, Everline Jazelle Vargas-Sandoval, also known as Everline Tavares, arrived in Guam on a flight from Hawaii.
According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam, Vargas-Sandoval, 26, was interviewed by a Guam Customs and Quarantine Officer and explained she “packed the contents of her baggage herself and that there were no controlled substances or narcotics in her baggage.”
“During the inspection of the Defendant’s baggage, (the officer) observed two plastic straws containing a substance suspected of being cocaine, as well as a resealable bag containing other plastic bags which contained residue suspected of being cocaine,” the complaint stated.
“The report indicates that each item of contraband was wrapped in three different pairs of jeans,” the complaint stated, also confirming the substances tested positive for cocaine.
Vargas-Sandoval initially denied ownership of the contraband in the jeans, but later allegedly admitted the contraband was hers, according to the complaint.
Vargas-Sandoval was charged with importation of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance on board a vessel or aircraft arriving in or departing from Guam, both as first-degree felonies. She also was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance as a third-degree felony.
